Sunday School
Northbrae Community Church offers educational programs for children from pre-school through high school.
Children at Northbrae attend the first part of the worship service which includes songs, a responsive reading, a prayer, and a children’s story. They then go to their classes by age group: nursery through age 3 or 4, 4 years old through 1st grade, 2nd through 5th grade, and 6th grade through high school.
Each class has age related activities which often express the week’s worship theme. Our hope is that families will be able to discuss and understand their Sunday experiences during the rest of the week.
For the youngest group, activities include a story or poem, creating art work if they wish, and lots of free play with available toys.
The grade school groups have a story and/or a discussion-activity with often an art or craft related activity. Music is an activity at least once a month. The youngest and oldest groups join in for the music time if they wish. With the three younger groups, we try to emphasize Bible stories, hoping to increase our children’s biblical literacy.
Our middle and high school youth have a discussion on Sunday morning, again related to the weekly worship theme, emphasizing "Torchbearers", individual leaders from various traditions who have provided spiritual insights. More in depth discussion of Bible stories are included in the curriculum. An additional goal for this group is to have them participate in the worship service or other church activity every couple of months.
