DESCRIPTION:The next selection is The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray\, the remarkable story of J.P. Morgan’s personal librarian. If you want to join our discussion\, contact Dianne McNenny at mcnennyd@aol.com. \nOur Northbrae Book Group meets on irregular Sunday evenings on Zoom at 7:00 pm.  If the selection is a long book\, we will meet every two months\, if shorter\, every month.  The choice of books is decided by the group\, we try to alternate fiction and nonfiction books.   We explore a wide range of books.  Examples of recent titles are:  The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson\, Finding the Mother Tree\, The Hidden Lives of Trees\, Braiding Sweetgrass\, Audubon\, a biography by Shirley Streshinsky – a Northbrae member\, Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates\, Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver\, The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles\, The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich.  We are a friendly and welcoming group.  We enjoy all comments and learn from and laugh with each other.  As Nora Ephron says\, “I always read the last page of a book so that if I die before I finish I’ll know how it turned out.” Contact mcnennyd@aol.com for a link and find out what we a currently reading.

SUMMARY:Civic Conversations
DESCRIPTION:We will discuss the significance of the January 6 hearings.  Contact Dianne McNenny\, mcnennyd@aol.com\, if  you would like to join the conversation\, \nNorthbrae Civics Conversation group started in 2019 with the presidential campaign in full swing.  The group researched the many candidates followed by vigorous discussion.  After the election\, we concentrated on the Constitution and then we read and digested the Federalist Papers.  When the January 6th event happened\, the House created the January 6th Committee and our focus changed to follow the hearings.  We meet monthly on Zoom.  Participants share articles\, podcasts\, and online information to supply further information.  An interest in how our government functions\, the founding documents\, and the implications for our actions today\, have been the goals of our group.  We invite all who have such an interest to join us. \n
