Welcome to Northbrae Community Church! We are happy you have found us.  We are a lively and progressive non-denomination congregation in the historic Northbrae neighborhood of North Berkeley - located at the top of Solano Avenue on The Alameda.

  • Our identity and purpose are rooted in the progressive Christian tradition that leads us to reflect upon the life and teaching of Jesus.
  • At the same time, we are committed to the interfaith tradition that has been a growing part of our history. For many decades our explorations have been inspired by the respectful study of world and indigenous religions.
  • We welcome people of any religious tradition, mystical path, or secular spirituality to join with us in worship and service to others.
  • We value community over creed and discovery over dogma.
  • We strive  to nurture spirituality in a contemporary setting, and to provide a place where people can find meaning, experience enjoyment, and feel support in navigating life's many and varied challenges.
  • Northbrae gratefully welcomes all who enter our doors which are open to persons of all races, physical condition, creeds, gender identity, sexual identity, class and who wish an active and transformative faith.

Meditation Practice Every Monday at 5:00 pm (PST).  Please join us in spirit.  Close your eyes and recall three things from your day for which you are grateful.  They can be anything from the kindness and generosity of a friend, to the bounty of a meal, to the warmth of the sun, to the beauty of a night sky.

Wednesday Movie Night -  Join us Wednesday, April 21 at 6:30 pm.  Please watch the 1947 Best Picture Gentleman’s Agreement with Gregory Peck on your own and join us on Zoom for a discussion.  Each month we discuss a film and delve deeper into the topic of our series.  Currently, we are focusing on how we as individuals and society treat other people.  This film is about anti-Semitism.  See Events Page for more information.

Write for Your Life Writing Group - Write for Your Life is now meeting on Zoom three times a month; on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and the 3rd Thursday at 3:00 p.m. This is an open, drop-in group.  See Events Page for more information.

Sunday Evening Book Group -  The next Sunday Night Book Group choice is The Code Breaker - Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, and the Future of the Human Race, by Walter Isaacson. We will meet Sunday, May 23 at 7:00 PM.

OUR MISSION
Northbrae is a welcoming and diverse community of spiritual seekers inspired by Christian roots, receptive to all faiths and personal beliefs and committed to service for our community  with reverence for all humanity and the Earth.

OUR VISION
Provide a warm and loving welcome for spiritual exploration and growth.  Expand multi-faith and educational programs relevant to present and future generations to help create a just and sustainable world.  Build a vibrant community gathering place for all people.

OUR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
We join ourselves together as a church in the interest of morality and religion as interpreted by the growing thought and purest lives of humanity, hoping thereby to bear one another's burdens and promote truth, righteousness and love in the world.

PROGRESSIVE CHRISTIANITY
Northbrae is a member of Progressive Christianity, a non-profit organization that supports each person’s search for meaning rather than any exclusive dogma that limits the search for truth and free inquiry.  We encourage work that eases the suffering and degradation inherent in many of the structures of society; promote compassionate care for each other and acceptance of all people; and respect other world religious traditions. We affirm the use of sound scholarship and critical inquiry to understand the presence of God in human life.
